Classical BaZi divides the day by the sun's position. A clock does not, and the gap between them is often large enough to move a pillar.
A time zone is an administrative decision. China spans roughly sixty degrees of longitude and keeps a single clock, so noon on a phone in Kashgar and noon on a phone in Shanghai are separated by about two hours of actual sun. Classical BaZi divides the day by where the sun is, which means the clock time on a birth certificate is not yet an input — it is a number that has to be converted first.
The first is longitude. Every degree east or west of the meridian that governs your time zone is four minutes of real solar time, so a birth in Ürümqi at 12:00 by the clock is a birth at roughly 9:50 by the sun.
The second is the equation of time. The Earth's orbit is elliptical and its axis is tilted, so the sun runs ahead of the mean clock for part of the year and behind it for another part, by as much as sixteen minutes either way. Both corrections are applied here before a single pillar is cast.
Each of the twelve double-hours covers two clock hours, so a correction of an hour or more moves the hour pillar for a great many births. Where the correction crosses midnight it moves the day pillar, and the day stem is the day master — the character the whole reading is built on. A chart cast from raw clock time is not slightly off. It is a different chart.
Historical daylight saving is resolved from the birth city and date rather than assumed. Two things remain genuinely uncertain and are worth knowing about: a birth recorded in the 23:00 hour sits where two classical schools disagree about which day it belongs to, and a birth within a few minutes of a solar term sits on the boundary where the month pillar changes. Both are flagged in the app rather than silently decided.
