BaZi Compass ("we", "the app") is an entertainment application that computes Chinese Four Pillars (BaZi) charts and readings. This policy explains what we do and don't do with information when you use the app, buy a subscription, or order a report.
For the purposes of the UK and EU GDPR, the data controller for made-to-order readings (section 3) is:

To draw your chart the app asks for a name label, birth date, birth time, birthplace (longitude/timezone or city) and sex. This information:
If you export a backup file, that file is created locally and saved wherever you choose; we never receive it.
The app has no way to send us your chart, and we have no way to ask it for one. Anything we hold about you, we hold only because you sent it to us yourself — see the next section.
Some products are not generated inside the app. The Master Reading and the other written reports are prepared for one specific chart and delivered by email. To produce one, you send us information directly. This section covers only that path.
What you send us. After purchase you receive a short questionnaire. It asks for your name, birth date, birth time, birthplace, the sex recorded at birth, an email address for delivery, and — optionally, in your own words — what you would like the reading to address. Anything you write in that free-text field is entirely your choice; you can leave it blank and still receive a full reading.
Why we hold it, and on what legal basis. To produce and deliver the report you bought — that is, performance of a contract (UK/EU GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). If you choose to describe health, relationship or other sensitive circumstances in the free-text field, we rely on your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)), given by sending it; you may withdraw that consent at any time by writing to us, and we will delete the passage.
Where it lives. In our email inbox and, while the report is being written, on one working computer. The report itself is generated locally on that computer. Your details are not uploaded to any cloud service, analytics tool, or AI service by us. The email provider that carries your message processes it under its own privacy policy, as any email provider would.
How long we keep it. We delete your questionnaire, the original email, and the generated report files within 90 days of delivery, unless you ask us to keep them so you can request a re-send. Payment and order records held by the storefront (section 5) are kept by that storefront under its own rules, not ours.
Who else sees it. Nobody. We do not share, sell, or pass these details to any third party, and we do not use them to train anything.
If you activate a paid tier, the app stores your licence key and activation date locally. When you enter a store-issued (e.g. Gumroad) key, only the key string is sent to that store's verification endpoint to confirm the purchase is valid — no birth data and no other identifiers are attached.
One thing that sentence does not cover, and should: a check is still a web request, so the store receives that request's IP address and browser user-agent, exactly as it would if you opened its website. That is outside our control and true of any online verification. It means the store can associate a key check with a purchase it already knows about. No birth data, chart, reading or profile is attached to it, and the app makes no other outbound request of any kind — which you can confirm for yourself using the method in section 7.
We do not process or see your payment details. All purchases are handled by the storefront you buy from — Gumroad, Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store — under their own privacy policies and terms. Their handling of your name, email and card data is governed by them, not us. Refunds and subscription management follow that storefront's rules.
Nothing. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no cookies used for tracking, no device fingerprinting, and no crash-reporting that leaves your device. We cannot see how you use the app, which pages you open, or how often you return.
We do not use any other third-party service that receives your personal data.
No third-party code runs in this app. The app loads scripts from its own address and from nowhere else — no analytics library, no advertising SDK, no tracking pixel, no social widget, no font or stylesheet fetched from another company. This is stronger than a promise not to share data: nothing belonging to anyone else is present on the page to read it in the first place. You can confirm it yourself in about ten seconds — open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and read your chart, your month and your year: every request stays on this site. The single exception is the licence check described in section 4, which runs only when you paste a key, and sends only that key — section 4 also sets out what the store's server can see about the request itself.
BaZi Compass is intended for users aged 16 and older and is presented for entertainment and reflection. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, children included. If you believe a child has sent us information through the questionnaire in section 3, write to the contact address in section 1 and we will delete it.
Data in the app lives on your device, so you are always in control: edit or delete any profile in More → Profiles, export a backup, or clear everything by removing the app or clearing site data. There is no account for us to delete, because the app never creates one.
Data you sent us for a made-to-order reading (section 3) is different, because we do hold it. You may ask us at any time to give you a copy of it, correct it, or delete it, and to withdraw any consent you gave. Write to the contact address in section 1; we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EEA you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Data kept on your device is protected by your device's own security. Licence-key checks travel over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. The app itself sends no personal data anywhere, so using the app does not add your details to any store of ours.
We do hold personal data in one place: the email correspondence for made-to-order readings, described in section 3. That is a real store of real data and we do not want to describe it as anything else. It is a mailbox, so the honest account of its protection is this: it is protected by a strong unique password and two-factor authentication, its contents are deleted on the schedule stated in section 3, and it carries the ordinary risk that any email account carries. If you would rather not have your birth details sit in an inbox at all, the app's own readings need no email and no order.
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and note it in the app's release notes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
